Voting begins today! I know many residents have questions about the municipal election, so I’ve prepared this straightforward overview to help you understand when, where, and how to cast your ballot. My goal is to make the process clear, accessible, and welcoming for everyone.

Voting begins today, October 13, and closes at 8:00 p.m. on October 26. During the voting period, eligible voters can vote online at any time and from anywhere. In-person voting will also be available at scheduled times and locations throughout the municipality.

When Can I Vote?

Voting will look a little different in Grey Highlands this year. There will be no paper ballots. In keeping with the decision made on December 18, 2024, all voting will take place electronically. Each eligible voter will receive a personal identification number (PIN), along with the website address needed to vote online

How Do I vote?

Your PIN will be mailed on or about October 7, 2026, as part of your Voter Information Letter. Please keep this letter in a safe place, as it will also include:

  • The dates, times and locations of in-person voting;

  • Instructions and options on how to vote;

  • Dates and hours of electronic voting;

  • The contact information for voting assistance;

  • Voter eligibility criteria;

  • Office and candidate information; and

  • Information on illegal and corrupt practices under the Act

How Do I Receive My PIN?

Yes. The Municipality will offer in-person voting centres at selected times and locations throughout Grey Highlands during the advance voting period. A complete list is available here. Voters may also cast their ballot at the Municipal Office in Markdale from 8:30 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. on October 26.

Can I Vote In Person?

If you need assistance, please visit the Municipal Office in Markdale between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. or attend one of the advance voting locations. Election staff will be available to help make the voting process as smooth and accessible as possible. You may also email them or call at:

Who Do I Contact If I Need Help Voting?

If you lose your PIN, an authorized election official may issue a replacement after confirming your identity and eligibility. Replacement PINs are issued in person only, and you will be required to vote at that time.

What Happens If I lose My PIN?

There are 20 candidates in this election: three for Mayor, three for Deputy Mayor, and 14 for Councillor.

The Mayor serves as the head of Council, helping to build consensus, provide leadership, and represent the community. The Mayor also represents Grey Highlands on Grey County Council. Ontario’s strong mayor framework gives designated mayors additional authorities and responsibilities.

The Deputy Mayor serves as head of Council when the Mayor is absent and represents Grey Highlands on Grey County Council alongside the Mayor.

Councillors make up the remainder of Council and serve as your local representatives. We listen, ask questions, and make decisions on the issues that shape daily life in our community—including roads, water, property taxes, and municipal services. Councillors do not serve on Grey County Council.

Who can I vote for?

Joel Lougheed, Andrea Edwards, and Tom Allwood are running for Deputy Mayor. You may vote for one candidate or choose not to vote in this race.

Dane Neilsen, Mark Brown, and Paul McQueen are running for Mayor. You may vote for one candidate or choose not to vote in this race

I, Blake Martin, am running for Councillor alongside Dave Meslin, Paul Allen, Don Alp, James Black, Janet Carson, David Clarke, Emmett Ferguson, Xerxes Khalkhaly, Steve Maloney, David Russell, Sandy Thornton, Katrina Wood, and Dan Wickens. You may vote for up to five candidates.
